There are a number of great reasons for you to sign up for the Barclaycard AAdvantage Aviator Red World Elite Mastercard right now, especially if you are someone who takes considerable advantage of rewards points. The biggest and most obvious advantage to signing up for this card is that it comes with 60,000 American Airlines frequent flier miles, and unlike with other rewards cards, you don’t have to spend a crazy amount of money in order to unlock this sign-up bonus. That’s right, there is no minimum spending limit to unlock these bonus miles. All you have to do is make one purchase on the card within 90 days of signing up for the card.
The sign-up bonus is just the tip of the iceberg though. There are plenty of other reasons that signing up for this card is a great idea. You will also get 2 American Airlines miles for every dollar that you spend on purchases made from American Airlines or on services such as select car rental services, or office supply merchants. You also get your first checked bag free and preferred boarding for you and for four of your travel buddies whenever you fly on domestic American Airlines flights. Whenever you purchase in-flight food, drinks, or headsets with your Barclay AAdvantage Card, you will get 25% off of your purchases, and you will also receive a 10% rebate on redeemed American Airlines miles.
Before you get too excited about signing up for the Barclaycard AAdvantage Mastercard though, be sure to take a look at the downsides. There is a $95 annual fee for this rewards card that is not waived the first year that you are signed up for the card. If you have been playing the rewards game for long enough, then you know all about the Chase 5/24 rule. If you don’t know, Chase Bank has many credit cards with great rewards programs, which makes them very desirable. However, you will not get approved for a new Chase credit card even if your credit score is perfect, if you have opened more than 5 new credit accounts in the past two years. For this reason, it is recommended that for those who are interested in using rewards programs to sign up for business cards as opposed to personal cards, because business cards don’t normally show up on personal credit reports. However, there have been reports that Barclay business cards do show up on credit reports.
Another downside to this card is that American Airlines is notorious for not having available seating for rewards members redeeming points. It is not unheard of for a first class section on an American Airlines flight to fly totally empty, rather than give up a seat to someone who participates in a rewards program. That being said, American Airlines is part of the Oneworld Alliance, and so rewards points are redeemable with Oneworld Alliance affiliates. These affiliates include British Airways, Japan Airlines, Malaysia Airlines, Qatar Airways, Qantas, and more.
While the Barclaycard AAdvantage Aviator Red World Elite Mastercard does have its drawbacks, you will be able to do some amazing things with the number of redeemable points that you will earn with it. Some of these things include being able to go round trip from Seattle to Honolulu, or even San Francisco to Hong Kong just with the points that you earn from your sign up bonus. You will also basically be able to go pretty much anywhere in the world one-way with just those points. With these, and the multitude of other ways that you will be able to redeem your rewards points, the Barclaycard pretty much pays for itself the first year. So hurry and sign up for this card while you can!
