The Ultimate Virgin Atlantic Mastercard Bonus Deal for Savvy Travel Hackers

The Virgin Atlantic Mastercard has been known to vary its sign-on deals, but right now the bonus points it offers are at an all-time high. When you sign up and follow through with some simple steps, you can get up to 90,000 bonus miles good for travel on several airlines. While the miles aren’t worth a lot on Virgin Atlantic itself, they partner with ANA and Delta for better deals. If you’re ready to see what you can earn when adding this card to your wallet, read on for details. The Virgin Atlantic Mastercard has been known to vary its sign-on deals, but right now the bonus points it offers are at an all-time high. For just a $90 annual fee, you can easily earn up to 90,000 Flying Club miles. Start with 20,000 bonus miles directly after your first purchase, then add another 50,000 when you spend $12,000 or more in the first six months. Adding two authorized users to your account will garner you 5,000 more and you can earn up to 15,000 bonus miles every year on the anniversary of your sign-up depending on your spending habits. You gain 7,500 points after making purchases worth $15,000 in that year or 15,000 after spending $25,000 or more in that same time period. On top of that, you earn 3 miles for every dollar spent at Virgin Atlantic and 1.5 miles on every dollar you use to purchase everyday items and services. You can also boost your Flying Club status with 25 tier points earned on $2,500 worth of spending, up to a total of 50 points per month.

You’ll see that the initial signup bonus after making $12,000 in purchases will be 70,000 miles – 75,000 if you add two additional users. The rest you’ll have to wait for, but that alone adds up to more than 4 miles per dollar spent. Given the right airline, those points can get you far! You’ll probably want to avoid flying with Virgin Atlantic though. A round-trip ticket to London from the Northeast US can cost you between 20,000 and 115,000 miles with additional fuel surcharges of $645 to $1344 depending on what class you choose to fly, and it only gets more expensive the further west you start out.

Better airline choices to make use of your Flying Club miles are ANA and Delta. With ANA, you can make it all the way to Japan in first-class seating for the same miles that would only get you to Europe on Virgin Atlantic. Plus, there are minimal surcharges. On Delta, you can fly to Europe for only 50,000 miles one way with no carrier surcharges as long as you avoid the UK.

To reiterate, here is the bonus offer for the Virgin Atlantic Mastercard:

  • 20,000 Flying Club bonus miles after your first purchase
  • 50,000 Flying Club miles after making $12,000 in purchases within the first six months of opening your account
  • Up to 5,000 bonus miles for adding authorized users to your account
  • Up to 15,000 Flying Club bonus miles on each anniversary of sign-up depending on purchase history
  • Earn 3 Flying Club miles for every dollar you spend on Virgin Atlantic purchases
  • Earn 1.5 Flying Club miles for every dollar spent on all other purchases
  • Plus 25 tier points for every $2,500 in purchases to elevate to Flying Club status (up to a maximum of 50 per month)

Though not the best, the Virgin Atlantic Mastercard is excellent for travelers who want to earn miles on everyday expenses that may not otherwise count towards points, but you’ll have to be willing to make use of partner airlines. Those looking for a card with the best bonus options might want to look elsewhere. This card is better as a companion to a wallet full of more rewarding cards.
